Defence opened yesterday in the conspiracy and forgery
case involving Temple Godson, Abdou William and Tida Badjie, at the Special
Criminal Court in Banjul before Justice Emmanuel Nkea.
In his defence, Temple Godson told the court that he currently lives at Mile 2 Central Prison, but before the incident, he was a graphic designer, and had designed many things.
Asked by counsel whether he admitted to the charge of conspiracy to commit a felony and forgery, Godson denied that, saying he never told the police he accepted the charge.
He further testified that he did not forge any document as alleged by the prosecutor, and did not conspire with any of the accused persons, as he had never seen them before.
The accused added that, in 2011, while he was in his house, he received a call from an unknown person, who asked him to design a card and other things for him.
He said he told the person that he saved the design in his flash drive, adding that on 28 May 2011, he received a call from the same person between 2 and 3 pm.
“The person said he urgently wanted to see me. When I told him where I was, after 20 to 30 minutes, I was arrested by the police, and taken to Bundung Police Station,” the accused told the court.
“I was later escorted to my house by the police where a search was conducted, but nothing was found. I was later taken to SerreKunda Police Station where I spent two months in the cell,” he said, adding that he never told the police that he accepted the charge.
