Defence opens in alleged 7000 cement theft case

One Abdoulie Jarra, who was alleged of stealing 7000 bags of cement on Monday, 26th April 2010, opened his defence before Magistrate Drammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court.

Testifying before the court, the accused Abdoulie Jarra told the court that between 2007 and 2008, he was working as a supplier of cements at Gam Petroleum Company.

According to him, every morning his boss, Alhagie Foard would contact him to supply cements to customers.

He revealed that before doing the job his boss would take out money and ask him to help him count it, after which he would hand it over to him.

Still testifying, the accused, Abdoulie Jarra added that, later he heard that his boss has absconded.

He said that it is not part of his duty as a supplier to keep money, and that he did not sign any document, neither did he steal the money.

He testified that he made a statement at the police station that he did not steal the money.

The case was subsequently adjourned to 13th May 2010 for continuation.
