The body of an unknown man was Friday recovered from the sea around Denton Bridge in Banjul.
The incident, which left many onlookers astonished, happened at a time when the body was already decomposing.
The body, which was buried at the river side due to its advanced decomposing state, could not be identified as no document was found on it.
When contacted, ASP Sulayman Secka, spokesperson for the Gambia Police Force, confirmed the incident, noting that the body was found in the mangrove swamps and in a decomposing state.
"We invited the medical and health officials who sprayed the body, and buried it near the river due to the fact that it was decomposing," Secka told this reporter.
He narrated that the body was found by someone, who reported the matter to the police.
The police mouthpiece advised the general public to always carry their National Identification documents so that in case such happens, they can be easily identified.
He added that it is always difficult to identify such persons when such happens.
