Darsilameh Caliph General, alkalo arraigned for disobedience

The Caliph General of Darsilameh Sangajor, Sheikh Muhideen Hydara, and the village alkalo, Buyeh Touray, were Tuesday arraigned before principal magistrate Dayoh M. Small-Dago at the Brikama magistrates’ court, charge with two counts of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor and disobedience to lawful order.

The charge sheet in count one stated that the accused persons, Sheikh Muhideen Hydara and Buyeh Touray, on 29 July 2014 between 10 am and 11 am, at Darsilameh Sangajor village in the Foni Kansala district of the West Coast Region, jointly conspired to commit an offence.

Count two stated that they jointly disobeyed a lawful order of the President of The Gambia by refusing to perform Eid ul Fitr prayers on 28 July 2014, as announced by GRTS and instead they performed the Eid on 29 July 2014, and thereby committed an offence.

They both denied the charge, and were granted court bail of D50,000 each with two Gambian sureties.

The prosecuting officer, police chief inspector Touray, applied for an adjournment to enable him bring witnesses.

Defense counsel LK Mboge applied to have the witness statements from the prosecution, which was granted by the court.The case was adjourned to 18 August 2014, for hearing.
