The Brikama Magistrates' Court presided over by Magistrate Effim recently convicted and sentenced one Sambujang Drammeh to a fine of D5, 000 in default to serve one year in prison for theft.
Delivering his judgment, Magistrate Effim told the court that the convict was arraigned on 29th March 2010 charged with stealing from a dwelling, to which he pleaded not guilty. He added that the prosecution in support of their case had called in seven witnesses, while the convict testified on his own without calling any witness.
Magistrate Effim told the court that the evidence of the prosecution witnesses had proven the prosecution's case beyond all reasonable doubt. Consequently, the court, therefore, found the accused guilty of the offence charged.
The convict in his plea of mitigation begged the court to temper justice with mercy. He told the court that he has two children he is taking care of.
