A cheque for D35, 000 was recently handed over to the Director of Immigration, Mr. Buba Sagnia, at his office in Banjul by the members of the Gambia Police Force Credit Union.  According to the benefactor, the money is meant for the fencing of the new Immigration office in Tanji.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Masanneh Fofana, the Chairman of GPFCCU said his union has started the project some three years ago by refurnishing the police conference hall at the police headquarters at a tune of D100, 000.

He said the union has also given an amount of D150, 000 towards the building of Serrekunda Fire Station. This, he added, is part of their contribution to the development of the service sector.

Fofana explained that another D25, 000 was given to the police clinic, followed with a presentation of D10, 000 to the Community Credit Union.

According to him, Police Credit Union is not only for certain branches, but for the entire department under the Ministry of Interior.

For his part, the Director General of Immigration Department, Mr. Buba Sagnia thanked the Police Credit Union for the gesture. He said such a contribution is very important in complementing government efforts. Director General Sanyang added that the new Immigration branch in Tanji is very important, particularly in addressing the issue of those who want to use the area as an exit point to the backway to Europe. He therefore thanked the union for supporting the service departments under the Ministry of Interior.
