The Central River Region Red Cross Branch has embarked on a community sanitary project to assist Kerewan Dumbo village in Upper Fulladu West District, Central River Region South.

The Red Cross branch is providing two wells and toilets for each compound, thanks to the support from the Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS).

According to the coordinator of the project in Bansang, Pa Musa Kijera, the main office of the GRCS is supporting the project, which falls within their disaster risk reduction package of which Kerewan Dumbo is a beneficiary.

He also revealed that Dyke Construction is also taking strategic locations within the community.

"This is all part of averting future disasters in the community, thus reducing disaster risks in the area," he said.

Similarly, the GRCS secured funds from the disaster reduction emergency fund in Dakar to assist disaster victims across the country.

He revealed that in Central River Region alone 120 disaster victims were given two thousand six hundred and thirty-two dalasis each to support them to regain some of their losses during the raining season.

He used the opportunity to thank the Red Cross Society for their support to the poor and suffering.

He noted: "Red Cross Society is a humanitarian society that has concern for the entire humanity to alleviate their suffering."
