Court orders suspect to be mentally examined

A Magistrate Court in Brikama recently ordered one Cherno Jallow to be taken to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital for mental examination.

Cherno Jallow who pleaded guilty to the charge of threatening to kill his mother was arraigned before Magistrate Effim, charged with the said offence.

According to the particulars of offence, on 28th November 2009, at Mayor Village in Foni, Bondali District, Western Region, threatened to kill his mother Fatou Sanneh with an iron bar and pestle.

According to Magistrate Effim, after carefully observing the behaviour of the accused he was convinced that the accused person is absentminded.

He consequently ordered him to keep the peace for a period of 12 months, and if he commits any offence within that period he would be made to pay a fine of D5, 000 to the state.

The Magistrate further ordered the accused to be taken to the RVTH for mental examination.
