Convict jailed for 18 months

The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Buba Fatty to 18 months in prison without any option of a fine.

The convict, Buba Fatty, was sentenced upon his own plea of guilt to charges of housebreaking and stealing.

According to the charge sheet, the accused, Buba Fatty, on 15 February 2012 in Bakau, broke into the house of one Ensa Jammeh with intent to commit a felony therein to wit stealing.

In his plea of mitigation after the narration of the facts as per the charge sheet, the convict begged the court for mercy.

The court was told that the convict was a first-time offender.

The trial magistrate in his judgment revealed that the offence of housebreaking and stealing was becoming common in the country, adding that this would serve as a deterrent to the society.

He finally handed a custodial sentence of 18-month imprisonment without any option of a fine.
