A two-day workshop for personnel of The Gambia Tourism Unit is underway at the Dunes Resort Hotel in Kololi.
The workshop, organised by The Gambia Tourism Board (GTB), is meant to train the Gambia Security Unit personnel on tourism and security, tourism offences Act, among others.
In her opening speech, Fatou Beyai, acting-Director General of the GTB, said the training is very important for both the participants and her office.
“Tourism is very beneficial to the country and it is a life-giving activity in the sense it provides the livelihood for the people,” she said, adding that to have a more beneficial tourism in the country there must be continued peace and security.
The peace and security the security personnel have been ensuring has been their key selling points wherever they go.
“We hope that this training will help us all to understand the role each and every one of us is playing in the tourism sector,” she said.
Superintendent Omar Darboe, Commander of The Gambia Tourism Unit, said the workshop is very important for them as police officers, “especially at this point in time”.
“We are very grateful and we hope this training will help us in our work,” Darboe noted.
He assured the GTB that the knowledge that will be gained from the training will be put into good use.
