Cattle rustler convicted

The Kanifing Magistrates' Court presided over by Magistrate George recently convicted and sentenced one Sayerr Ceesay to one year in prison, upon his own plea of guilty to a charge of stealing.

The charge sheet indicated that the convicted person on 24 November 2010, at Dippakunda, stole two sheep valued at D1,800, being the property of one Solomon Saine.

The convict asked the court to temper justice with mercy on him.

The prosecuting officer, 656 Jaiteh, told the court that the accused was previously convicted to six months for a similar offence.

In a separate development, one Modou Alieu Jallow was also convicted to serve six months in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing.

According to the charge sheet, as presented before the court, the convicted person on16th November 2010, at Latrikunda Market stole a wheelbarrow valued at D1,000, the property of one Momodou Jallow.

First Class 2118 Gomez, the prosecuting officer, confirmed to the court that the convicted person is a first-time offender.

Subsequently, the presiding magistrate convicted him after hearing his plea of mitigation.
