The case of willful damage to property and stealing involving Eliyasa Darboe and Musa Jatta proceeded on Monday at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

Testifying as the first prosecution witness (PW1), Jaja Mbye, told the court he worked as a Fire Officer attached to the Bakau beach side.

He said he recognised the accused persons and could recall on 18 September 2011, when his boss, Lamin Drammeh, was on patrol on the beach side and saw someone there.

His boss came and asked for help, he said, adding that on his arrival he saw the 1st accused cutting the iron or metals on the bridge and was pulling it, even though the iron was fitted on the bridge.

PW1 said further that when he asked the 1st accused what he was doing at the bridge the accused asked for forgiveness, adding that the accused was subsequently arrested and taken to the Bakau Police Station.

He said that at the station he made his statement to that effect.

At that juncture, the case was adjourned till 3 January 2012.
