Butcher Convicted For Cheating

Principal Magistrate Mahoney of the Brikama Magistrates' Court last Monday convicted and sentenced one Modou Gaye for cheating.

According to the facts narrated by the police prosecutor, 1st Class Ebou Ceesay, it happened on the 9th of August 2009 at Abuko. He said the complainant Safie Sarr went to the Abuko Abbattoir to buy some meat, and the accused Modou Gaye sold one kilo of meat to her from tampered scales at a cost of D120. He added one Abdoulie Nyang was observing him and there he reported the matter to one police officer Momodou E. Bah, adding that the convict was therein arrested and taken to the Yundum police station.

He further narrated that at the police station the convict confessed selling the meat to the complainant at a cost of D120.

After the facts were narrated the accused pleaded guilty and was convicted and sentenced to a fine of D6000 in default to serve 1 month imprisonment.
