Burglar convicted

The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted one Ousman Bah on charges of burglary and stealing.

Bah was convicted and sentenced on count one to a fine of D25,000, in default to serve two years in prison, and on count two to a fine of D5,000, in default to serve one year in prison.

He was also ordered to compensate the complainant with D28, 000, in default to serve another two years in prison.

Both sentences are to run concurrently.

The charge sheet on count one stated that Ousman Bah, on 18 September 2011, at Latrikunda German, in the Kanifing Municipality, broke into the house of one Kahani Naugha, with intent to commit a felony, to wit stealing.

The particulars of offence on count two read that he stole the following items: cash of D30, 800, a Moroccan passport, a Moroccan Identity Card, a Gambian residential permit, two Nokia phones, a bag containing Guaranty Trust Bank savings book, GTB receipts, GTB Western Union receipts, two passport-size photos, two torch lights, one electric bulb and one floor mat, all being the property of the said Kahani Naugha.
