Bunuborr Alkalo Jailed

Landing Jatta, the Alkalo of Bunuborr village in Foni Kansala, Western Region, was last Thursday convicted and sentenced to three months mandatory jail term for being in possession of firearms without authority.

Mr. Jatta was charged with three counts of setting fire to a Forest Park, damaging a fence and in possession of firearms without licence.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of firearm without licence but pleaded not guilty to the allegation of setting fire to a Forest Park and damaging a fence.

On count one he is being alleged to have set fire to a 7-kilometre Forest Park on the 15th March 2009, whilst on count two he is being alleged to unlawfully, wilfully and maliciously damaged the fence of Bunuborr Forest Park.

The trial continues.
