Brufut United on Friday beat Gunjur United 8-7 on a marathon post-match penalty shootout in the opening game of the first-ever West Coast Regional league, after a goalless draw in the regulation time, at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.
Gunjur United dominated the game and created numerous goal-scoring opportunities but blasted all their chances into the bush.
Brufut United, on the other hand, who were defending and relying on counter attacks, created few goal-scoring opportunities but also squandered all their limited chances thus the game ended goalless.
This pushed the game into a post-match penalty shootout, which ended 8-7 in favour of Brufut United.
As winners of the opening game, Brufut United went home with a giant trophy and cash prize of D6,000, whilst Gunjur United received D4,000 as consolation prize.
