The British High Commission in Banjul recently donated 200 books to Mile II Prison, a news release issued by the diplomatic mission reveals.
The books were donated by previous members of High Commission staff before they departed The Gambia at the end of their tours, as well as members of the British community living in The Gambia, it added.
The dispatch further revealed that this development came following recent discussions between prison officials and the British High Commission.
The donation, which included novels, dictionaries, educational books and encyclopaedias, was done with the hope that they would be of help to prisoners.
