In the 63rd minute of the game striker Ngala Diallo netted the opener for US Ouakam after capitalising on Brikama United’s goalkeeper Ebrima Bojang’s error, to give his side the lead, which eventually proved to be the winner for US Ouakam.
Brikama United fought back for an equaliser and created several goal-scoring opportunities.
Striker Foday Trawally could have levelled the score for Brikama United in the 73rd and 77th minutes of the game when he slashed through US Ouakam’s defence line but was affected by poor finishing.
US Ouakam also had another chance through Pa Modou Ndiaye in the 82nd minute but his powerful shot hit the woodwork. The Senegalese side will now host Brikama United in the return leg in
Despite his side 1-0 defeat to Senegalese league champions, Essa Sambou, head coach of Brikama United, has expressed optimism that his side can beat US Ouakam in the return leg.
Speaking shortly to reporters after the game, Coach Sambou said “US Ouakam can also lose at home”.
“We are confident that the team can upset US Ouakam in
Abdou Salam Lamp, head coach of US Ouakam, said the tie is far from over despite his side’s narrow 1-0 win in the first leg.
“Brikama United is a very good team,” the Senegalese coach averred, saying the Gambian side gave his team “tough time” in the first half of the match.
Meanwhile, the match between Gamtel and Cassa Sports of Senegal in the ongoing Confederation Cup ended 1-0 in favour of Gamtel at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium. Gamtel’s goal was scored courtesy of Modou Sarr in the 72nd minutes.
