Brikama United on Tuesday came from a 1 goal down to secure a 1-1 draw with Wallidan, as part of week fourteen fixtures, at the KG5 mini-stadium in Banjul, a result that has moved them back into the top place on the GFA Division one league table.
The West Coast Region outfit, who have played one more game than Real De Banjul prior to the encounter, have seen their leadership place put under threat when Real De Banjul leapfrogged them and got to the top on temporal basis.
A win for them against Wallidan could have seen them open up a three-point gap at the summit of the table but could only manage a 1-1 draw, meaning they have only reclaimed top spot with a single point separating them with second-place holder Real.
Lamin Saho gave Wallidan FC the lead in the 19th minute as he capitalised on an Ousman Sillah set-up just at the edge of the eighteen-yard box, for the first goal of an action-packed clash of a huge turnout.
Brikama United responded three minutes later when Adama Sabally headed home from Modou Jallow’s corner kick to earn his team’s much needed equaliser much to the delight of a cheering Brikama United fans.
Five minutes into the second period, Ebou Cole had a golden opportunity to register his name on the score-sheet for Brikama United but his effort was too easy for goalkeeper Babou Jah to deal with.
Isaha Dem had another shot saved by goalkeeper Bubacarr Sanyang in the 67th minute of the game.
Substitute Foday Trawally struck the bar for Brikama United in the 81st minute of the game when goalkeeper Babou Jah kicked the ball straight to him.
Brikama United are back on top of the league table with 27 points in fourteen games, while Wallidan FC are third with 24 points, 2 points behind second-place holders Real De Banjul.
