Brikama United maintain lead in GFA 1st Division

Brikama United have maintained their perfect start to the first round of the 2010-11 Gambia Football Association division one league after yet another brilliant performance against the blue boys Wallidan in the final game of round one at the Brikama Box Bar Mini-stadium on Sunday.

The Western Region outfit who continued to sit at the summit of the twelve-club league table with an impressive total of 25 points held Wallidan to a bitterly fought goalless draw before a massive crowd in Brikama at the weekend.

The draw means the Western Region outfit will go into the second round aiming to keep hold onto their impressive performance as they set their eyes on winning the league title for the first time in their history.

Elsewhere telecommunication giants Gamtel beat struggling Africell side 2-1 at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium the same day.

Sarja Jarjue-Sey opened the scoring for Gamtel in the 47th minute of the game, before Africell levelled through Habibou Koroma in the 60th minute of the game from a long range shot to level the score but a goalkeeping error by Africell goalkeeper Amadou Camara left the team disappointed when Assan Ceesay netted the winner to send Gamtel into celebration.

Bakau giant killers Steve Biko were held to a 1-1 draw by the draw specialists Interior at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

Brikama United is followed by Wallidan who occupied second spot with 19 points the same number of points with Real De Banjul and Gambia Ports authority but some goal differences.

Gamtel are 5th position on the league with 16 points in eleven games.

Steve Biko, who sit at second from bottom, got 7 points in eleven games the same number of points with neighbours Africell, who also got 7 points but have a better goal advantage than Biko, while Interior are rooted at the bottom of the table also with 7 points in eleven games.
