Brikama Lower Basic School lift Galp trophy

Brikama Lower Basic School in Region Two were the grand champions of the 2010 Galp Football Tournament after defeating their opponent Tallinding Proper Lower Basic School of Region One 1-0  to claim the title.

The Serrekunda East Mini-stadium on Monday witnessed two interesting football finals, the first of which was a semi-final between Bijilo Lower Basic School in Region Two and Wesley Lower Basic School in Region One, respectively.

The match between Bijilo and Wesley in the semi-final ended in a goalless draw before they could settle for a post-match penalty shoot-out which ended 5-4 in favour of Wesley.

Tallinding and Brikama Lower Basic Schools were involved in a tough final with the much-awaited Galp trophy at steak.

When the central referee blew the whistle for the start of the match, both teams show their talents in a dramatic style. But Tallinding who got numerous scoring opportunities were denied by poor finishing in both halves. As a result, the first half ended in a goalless draw. Upon resumption, Musa Touray scored a decisive goal to give Brikama the title. 

As champions Brikama Lower Basic bagged home with D2, 500, Tallinding Lower Basic School as runners-up received D1, 500, while Bijilo with 3rd position received D1, 000 and Wesley at 4th position got D750.

Musa Mendy, the National Sport Coordinator at MoBSE presented the prizes to the winning teams and others.
