Brikama Fish Market Project was recently sued at the Kanifing Industrial Tribunal by one Mamina Fadera and Yankuba Sanneh for unlawful dismissal.
They are claiming for the recovery of D191,423.06 being 42 days accumulated leaves, 57 days accumulated public holidays and five years salary for damages and compensation for unlawful dismissal.
Their particulars of claim stated that they were at all material time working for the department of an ice sales attendant and chill room attendant.
The claim indicated that on 7 July 2013, they received a termination letter dated 26 May 2013, and were not given a notice of hearing.
They further claimed they reported the matter to the Labour Department.
After a tripartite meeting held at the Labour Department, they stated in their claim, the Labour Department came with a conclusion and advised the plaintiffs to take the matter to court to seek redress.
They said in their claim the defendant had no valid reason to dismiss them.
On 9 December 2013, Mamina Fadera testified on behalf of Yankuba Sanneh before Magistrate Jobarteh.
The plaintiffs were represented by Garba Cham.
Sheikh Tijan Hydara threw his weight behind the defendant.
He told the tribunal he was just coming into the case and applied for an adjournment to be able to familarise himself with the records.
His application was granted and the case was adjourned till 16 December 2013.
