An Academy from Sukuta Jamissa benefited from football materials on Sunday at the Sanchaba Suly Jobe Lower Basic School football playground at a presentation ceremony.

The Academy received two sets of jerseys and 21 pairs of football shoes.

Speaking to reporters, the donor, Hans van Hees, said he is very much delighted about the turnout and the commitment the players and their technical staff showed to him.

He explained how his relationship started with the Academy.

According to him, it all started when they met Malang Darboe 11 years ago on the beach, by then Malang was a small boy who used to sell peanuts at the beach.

Since Malang was a small boy, whose condition and family background he later got to know about, he decided to sponsor him and his younger brother Umfan Darboe.

That was how the idea came about, thanks to Malang and his brother and this is not the first time I have been doing this; last year also a football club in another part of Sukuta called Putaland FC were the first team to benefit from the gesture, and it is all positioned courtesy of a foundation from Holland, an individual as well who give me stuff to send to The Gambia,” he pointed out.

Hans promised the youths, saying that hopefully if he is in a good condition of health he would come back again.

Malang Darboe, who introduced Hans Vanhees to the Academy, outlined the importance of the donation and urged the boys to make good use of the material warning them not to sell the items as it will pave the way for the upcoming young players.

He prayed for the relationship to continue and also asked God to shower blessings on Hans and his family and friends in Holland.

Amadou Cham, head coach, who sounded very much delighted, said the materials came at a right time for them.

He promised Hans and his friends in Holland that the materials will be handled well under his leadership as head coach for the Academy.
