Speaking at the presentation ceremony held in Gunjur, Omar Barrow, a member of Samgermarr FC and friend of the donor, said the donation was part of the contribution of Yakuba Darboe and Samgermarr FC towards the development of sports in Gunjur, especially football.
He commended members of the GSC for their commitment and hard work towards the development of football in Gunjur while urging them to keep up the momentum.
“I think Gunjur Sports Committee has contributed immensely towards the development of football in the town,” he said.
Their contributions, according to Mr Barrow, include the fencing of Gunjur Nyamina Football field, which was in a state of dilapidation.
Barrow expressed the duo’s readiness in supporting the GSC in the near future.
“Efforts are in the pipeline for the donors to send more football materials for Gunjur Sports Committee,” he disclosed.
Receiving the donated items, the President of the GSC, Buba Bada Bojang, applauded Yakuba Darboe and Samgermarr FC for supporting the GSC, saying the donation came at a better time as Gunjur is preparing for the Kombo South District Football Tournament.
Bojang appealed to other Gunjurians resident in the diaspora to emulate Yakuba Darboe and Samgermarr FC for their “tremendous” contribution towards the development of sports in Gunjur.
Other speakers on the occasion included the 1st vice president and secretary general of the GSC, Faburama Darboe and Abdou Janneh, respectively, who hailed the donors for the “wonderful assistance”.
“The donated materials will go a long way in motivating the players to perform well in the ongoing Kombo South District Football Tournament,” the duo said.
