Boost for education for all

Banjul City Council (BCC) yesterday presented a cheque for D50,000 to Education for Al l- Region one Chapter, as part of its contribution towards the development of the education sector in The Gambia.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the BCC Conference Hall in Banjul, the Lord Mayor of Banjul, Samba  Faal, said the council was happy to render support to needy students in region one and the country at large.

He said the council is ready to contribute in supporting the education sector in the country to complement government's efforts.

"The aim of the council is to contribute our quota to the development of the country, especially in the area of education," Mayor Faal said, adding that money received by BCC would always be put into good use.

In receiving the cheque, the chairman of Education for All in Region one chapter, Musa Mendy, hailed Banjul City Council for its "tremendous" contribution towards the development of the education sector.

According to him, over 400 children recently left school in Banjul due to financial constraints, adding that the money received from BCC would be used to help such students to settle their tuition fees.

He assured the mayor that the money would be put into good use and the chapter would work closely with the BCC in taking education to high heights in the country.

Education for All - Region one chapter, for its part, presented a certificate of appreciation to the BCC for their contribution towards the development of education in the country.
