Nawetan debutants Blue Stars FC have joined Maccassa FC and Milan FC who earlier qualified to the semifinal stage of the ongoing Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation (SESDO) league competition.
Blue Stars FC beat Latrikunda United 5-4 on post-match penalty kicks following a goalless draw on regulation time in the quarterfinal encounter played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on Monday.
Blue Stars FC will now face the winner between Hannover FC and T. Central FC, who were battling for a semifinal spot as of press time.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the game, Yunusa Badjie, head coach of Blue Stars FC, expressed delight in the win, saying his team was knocked out of the competition by Latrikunda United, which was why they gave the game their all.
Carrick, as he is widely called, also expressed confidence that his team will centre this year’s SESDO League final, noting that despite the age of his players they deserve to centre a final.
He remarked that almost all his players are still going to school, and none of them is playing divisional football.
“People said I will never qualify for the nawetan proper with these kids,” he recalled, but that he always motivates them by telling them that they are the best.
He stated that he was not surprise his team qualified for the semifinals, adding that his team has been improving game after game.
He said most of the supporters of the team are also students and have not been able to come out in their large numbers to support the team since school open but thanked them for being behind the team.
