Berewuleng FC have been crowned champions of the 2012 Brikama Nawettan league title after thumping New Town FC 2-0 in a well-attended final game played at the Brikama Mini Stadium on Sunday.
Both sides made promising starts to the game and caused series of assaults in front of each other’s goal mouth.
Berewuleng opened the score through Aji Jallow in the 10th minute of the game from a stunning strike to give her side the lead.
Berewuleng were reduced to ten women after defender Serreh Jatta was sent off for unsporting behaviour.
The Gambia U-17 striker Sainey Sissoho sealed the victory in the 55th minute of the game after slashing through New Town’s defence line to extend her side’s lead, which eventually proved to be the winner for Berewuleng as well as helped them to clinch their first-ever Brikama Nawettan female league title.
New Town fought back for an equalizer and created chances but squandered their limited goal-scoring opportunities thus the game ended 2-0 in favour of Berewuleng.
As champions, Berewuleng went home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D5,000, whilst New Town received D3,000 as runners-up.
Mbassey Darboe, alias Messi of New Town FC, was awarded the best player of the tournament and received a trophy and a certificate. Bereh Bojang of New Town was awarded the best goalkeeper of the tournament and received a trophy and a certificate.
Mama Gibba of Berewuleng was awarded the best defender of the tournament and received a trophy and a certificate. Ndey Beyai of Sky Power FC was awarded the best midfielder of the tournament and received a trophy and a certificate.
Awa Demba of Sky Power was awarded the leading goal scorer and best forward of the tournament and received a trophy and a certificate, while Santo-Su United FC received a trophy.
