Bench warrant ordered for accused

The Kanifing Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 11 April 2012 ordered a bench warrant for one Alieu Cham to appear before the court on the next adjourned date.

It would be recalled that the accused person was arraigned before the court and charged with stealing, an allegation he had denied.

When the case was mentioned, police prosecutor CPL 2118 Gomez informed the court of the accused person’s absence.

According to him, on the last proceedings, the court asked the accused to bring his school certificate.

However, the prosecutor noted that when he called to inform the accused of his appearance before the court on the very date, his mother told him the accused went to Senegal for treatment.

Subsequently, the court ordered for a bench warrant to be issued for the arrest of the accused person and upon apprehension, he shall be kept in custody at Mile 2 and be brought before the court on the next adjourned date.

Hearing was set to continue on 7 May 2012.

According to the charge levelled against the accused, on 4 May 2011, at Dippa Kunda, the accused stole from the house of one Sarjo Jammeh and Alieu Gisseh a laptop marked Toshiba valued at D25,000 and a mobile double sim marked Nokia valued at D1,500.
