The Gambia Basketball Federation under the leadership of Muhammed Musa Njie (Papa Njie) recently conducted, for the first time, a training course for coaches and referees at the Gambia National Olympic Committee hall.
The training course was held from 26 to 30 September 2012, and was sponsored by the Gambia National Olympic Committee.
Twenty-five participants drawn from across the country, according to assistant secretary Andrew Jatta, attended the course which focused on the rules of the game.
The chairman of the National Sports Council, Bun Njie, presided at the opening ceremony of the course, which was conducted by former international referee Moses Njie.
Malang Jassey who represented the Ministry of Youth and Sports did the closing ceremony, where all participants were awarded certificates. The participants who went through an examination all passed with more that 60 per cent.
