The Banjul-Dakar Student Association is set to be launched in Dakar between 30 June and 5 July 2011, according to Modou C. Nyang, Secretary General of the Management Development Institute Student Union.

Speaking recently to this reporter in an interview, Mr Nyang revealed that he met with Gambians studying in Senegal at the Cheikh Anta Diop University during his last visit to Senegal for the World Social Forum.

Gambian students studying at the university had a closed door meeting with him, Jalika Keita, Global Unification and Lamin Saidykan, an activist, in which pertinent issues regarding forming the association were discussed, he explained.

Mr Nyang added that the students also raised concern for not being able to involve in student-related activities in The Gambia. According to him, they assured the students that they would do everything possible to solve the issues.

Mr Nyang said the students later gathered themselves and formed an association called Banjul-Dakar Student Union, with the aim of promoting the development of Gambian students both at home and abroad.

“This launching will also mark the annual education trip of members of the MDI student union to Senegal,” he said.
