Recently Bakoteh Red Cross home link inaugurated its new executive at a ceremony held at Bakoteh Youth Multi-Purpose Centre.
In her welcoming remarks, Fatou Serdeny, a member of the link informed the gathering that the Red Cross link was founded by individuals far back in the year 2007. She said that this year is the 8th annual report and inauguration of the link, adding that the link was engaged in sensitising and building capacity of its members.
For her part, Fatoumatta Njie, the out-going Secretary said that the ultimate aim of the association was to alleviate poverty and involve in activities, ranging from capacity-building, camps, cleaning exercise and social activities.
Noting that there has been 17% increment in the membership over the years, she stressed that the executive should perform beyond their expectation.
In his remarks, Mr. Fabakary Kelly of the Gambia Red Cross Society advised individuals to change their attitudes towards development, saying that "society is what its people are."
"We urge members to build interest in societies they live," he stated, and thanked all those who have been in the work of the Red Cross.
He further said that young people are future ambassadors, and challenged them to condemn wars, and to stand firm to help humanity.
Kally finally thanked the general body of the link for a successful year and encouraged them to keep the flag fly high.
For her part, Teneba Jaiteh, the parental link mother of the association hailed the outgoing executive and encouraged the incoming one to keep up the momentum.
She applauded the link for the services they have been rendering to society and to the country as a whole. Madam Jaiteh challenged them to reach out to as much as many households in the country in rendering humanitarian services.
Certificates of appreciation were awarded to some outstanding members of the link.
