May 6, 2008, 6:22 AM | Article By: By Abdoulie Nyockeh

The trial of the 95 suspects in the Babylon disturbances resumed on yesterday, Monday before Senior Magistrate Edrisa Mbye of the Brikama Magistrates Court.

State Counsel Buba Bojang informed the court that the state would thenceforth take over the prosecution of the case from the police. He applied to the court to be given more time to enable him study the case file and call the necessary witnesses. He further told the court that he had just received the case file from the police and had started going through the cautionary and voluntary statements of the accused persons.

Senior defense counsel, Antuman Gaye, did not object to the state counsel's application for an adjournment of the case but stressed that because some accused persons are farmers, there is need for speedy trial of the case.

The application was granted and the case was adjourned  until 19th May, 2008.
