Magistrate James George of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Essa Kanteh to one year imprisonment with hard labour upon his own plea of guilt.
According to the presiding Magistrate, the accused person was charged with attempting to commit a felony on 25th January 2010, between the hours of 1:30pm - 2:00pm, at Kanifing Layout.
He said the accused, was not a first time offender, noting that three months after his previous conviction he has decided to commit an offence again.
The Magistrate further stated that he would not exercise mercy on the accused since he did not want to reform.
According to the facts as narrated by the police prosecutor, 1st Class 319 Jobe, on that fateful day the complainant John Travorkey left his house to the Airport and later received a phone call from one of his neighbours that his son, Ousman Sambou saw the accused trying to break his door, and as such both of them approached the accused and asked him what he was doing there.
He said the accused responded by saying that he was thirsty and was looking for water to drink, but his answer was not satisfactory enough to convince them.
Subsequently, he said the accused was arrested and taken to the Kanifing Estate Police Station, where he was cautioned and charged with the offence committed.
