Following his team’s 1-0 defeat to FA Cup champions Gamtel in the first leg of the second round encounter of the CAF Orange Confederation Cup, the head coach of AS Real De Bamako, Mamudou Kaneh, has said his team’s narrow defeat to Gamtel in the first leg of the Confederation Cup was because they failed to capitalise on their limited goal-scoring chances.

Coach Kaneh made these remarks in an interview with reporters shortly after the game at the Independence Stadium in Bakau at the weekend.

Kaneh added that they created numerous goal-scoring chances but they squandered them whilst Gamtel managed to capitalise on their chance and scored, adding that his target was to beat Gamtel.

He was really impressed with the performance of his team, Kaneh said, adding that Gamtel is a very good team both in defensive and offensive play.

According to Kaneh, they would go back to Mali to prepare very well for the return leg, noting that they would also improve on their striking department ahead of the return leg in Mali in a fortnight’s time.

The head coach of Gamtel, Tapha Manneh, thanked God for registering a victory against determined AS De Bamako side in the first leg, saying he was also impressed with the performance of his team.

Coach Manneh added that the game was very difficult for Gamtel because they didn’t know anything about AS Real De Bamako since it was their first time to play against the Malian side in the Confederation Cup, who are a very good team as they really gave his side tough time.

Gamtel managed to snatch a narrow win, he said, adding that in the return leg their quest to qualify to the group stage of the competition will be attained.
