Armed Forces on Saturday defeated reigning league champions Brikama United 2-1 in the Week 19 fixtures to secure top spot in the ongoing Gambia Football Association (GFA) division one league played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.
Armed Forces opened the scoring through midfielder Baboucarr Badjan in the 7th minute of the game before Ebou Kanteh levelled it for Brikama United in the 15th minute to cancel out Baboucarr Badjan’s 7th minute opener.
Substitute Samba Kujabi netted the winner for Armed Forces in the 89th minute of the game to earn his side the top spot in the league, while telecommunications giants Gamtel defeated ferry boys Gambia Ports Authority 1-0 at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium on the same day.
Earlier on Saturday, Bakau United beat Hawks 1-0 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, and city boys Real De Banjul thrashed struggling Serrekunda United side 3-1 at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium on the same day.
Armed Forces are currently leading the table with 32 points in nineteen games, Real De Banjul are 2nd position with 30 points in nineteen games, and Gambia Ports Authority are 3rd position with 29 points in nineteen games.
Gamtel and Bakau United have each collected 25 points in nineteen games, Hawks have collected 24 points in nineteen games, and reigning league champions Brikama United 23 points in eighteen games with a game in hand against Steve Biko.
