Also, some bins were given to some banks in the North Bank Region such as Access Bank and Trust Bank in Barra, and Trust Bank, Ecobank and Guaranty Trust Bank in Farafenni.
The presentation ceremony was held in Barra village and the materials are expected to enhance solid waste collection and management at the Barra ferry terminal and at the financial institutions.
Seedy Touray, chief executive officer of Kerewan Area Council, said the council is committed to support timely collection of solid waste and management to enhance sound environmental protection. He further said that the waste collection bins would strengthen the capacity of beneficiary institutions to effectively manage and control solid waste. The chairman of the area council, Lamin Ceesay, said the donation is in fulfillment of the council’s duty and it was also a complementary gesture to the national cleansing exercise. Alasan Keita, director of planning and development at Kerewan Area Council, assured of the council’s regular collection and disposal of waste. He urged the GPA to sensitise ferry passengers on the use of the bins.
