Mar 22, 2012, 12:55 PM

Nuha Saidykhan nominated independent candidate for Niamina Dankunku Constituency has withdrawn from the March 29th National Assembly Elections.

A news release issued by the Independent Electoral Commission, IEC, announced that Mr Saidkhan tendered his withdrawal to the IEC.

The IEC added that in keeping with the relevant section of the Election Act, the returning officer, Pa Makan Khan, had filled the acceptance of the withdrawal form and handed it over to Mr Saidykhan.

Meanwhile, the IEC release further stated: “Despite this withdrawal, election will still be contested in the said constituency between the APRC and NRP candidates.”

Mr Saidykhan’s withdrawal brings to two the number of nominated independent candidates whose withdrawal has been announced by the electoral authorities.

The first to draw was Pa Modou Njie of Upper Nuimi constituency, who was recently expelled from the ruling APRC party, along with several others, for contesting as independent candidates in constituencies where the APRC has candidates.
