Afatal accident involving a Mercedes Sprinter with registration number BJL 7493K and The Gambia Transport Service Company (GTSC) bus has claimed the lives of three people with twenty others hospitalised, The Point has been reliably informed.
The
accident, which happened between the villages of Bureng and Sinchu Njengundy of
the Lower River Region, occurred on Wednesday between the hours of 10 and 11am.
A
source who, is familiar with the matter and spoke to this medium on the
condition of anonymity said, 9 people who are in critical condition are at the
country’s main referral hospital (EFSTH)in Banjul, while the 11 others who
sustained minor injuries including the bus driver and his inspector were
referred to Soma Hospital.
“The Sprinter was coming from Basse direction
and travelling with speed, overtaking vehicles. It all happened as it overtakes
the first and second vehicles and while trying to overtake the third vehicle;
it apparently collided with the GTSC bus which was coming from Soma direction”.
The
accident, sources added, occurred at a critical junction between Bureng and
Sinchu Njengundy in Jarra East, LRR.
The
Sprinter was driven by Alieu Manneh, 35, from Bundung Ka-Kunda. A 6-year old
boy and one Sulayman Mbaye from Pateh Sam in CRR, were among those who died on
the spot.
