Amsterdam
Dakar Challenge in collaboration with Giri Gara Foundation have provided 5
million Euro charity after their car auction, to support tertiary education for
Gambian girls.
According
to the organisers, this is the 46th edition of the car auction in The Gambia
since 2004, and this year’s fundraiser was held at the Independent stadium in
Bakau on Sunday.
Pa
Modou Giri Gara Njie, chief executive officer of Giri Gara Foundation said the
purpose of the car auction is to raise money to give opportunity to Gambian
girls by fully funding their four year University degree courses, college
education and elementary school.
Mr.
Njie said the foundation also spotted out Gambia’s health sector, saying they
are currently building the structure to help communities in terms of health
service delivery to the people of the country.
“This
is a very big charitable organisation whose members sat together to discuss how
they will help Gambia government in critical areas of development,” he said.
Mr.
Njie added that the drivers will drive the auctioned car for about 25, 000
kilometers from Holland to The Gambia and sometimes some of the cars will not
be able to make it to The Gambia and they will eventually ship them back to
Holland.
According
to him, the foundation is a non-profit organisation that is recognise by the
government of The Gambia to contribute its quarter in the areas of education
and health for the betterment of the country.
