The Taiwanese ambassador to The Gambia, Samuel Chen, on February 14th 2013, handed over the completed first phase of the Ndemban Vocational Training Centre.
The first phase of the project saw the completion of the administrative building, fence and the gate.
Dr. Pap Sey, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MOHERST), presided over the ceremony, while Mr. Indrissa Kolley, Officer-In- Charge of the National Training Authority (NTA), received the keys of the completed administration building from Mr. Omar Gale, Technical Director of Gamworks.
H.E. ambassador Samuel Chen, who was invited to witness the project along with many other guests, expressed delight at the successful completion of the administrative building.
He said President Jammeh is very much concerned about vocational training programmes and the progress of the construction.
The second phase of the project is to build up two workshops for electrical and mechanical engineering courses.
After the second phase workshops, the training courses will be followed in an operation that will play an important role in national development, says Ambassador Chen, as he expressed hope that the project will smoothly proceed.
The Permanent Secretary at the ministry, Dr. Sey said science and technology, research and development, as well as market-driven skills trainings are three major missions of the ministry.
TVET project is one of the most important cooperation projects between The Gambia and Taiwan. This project could improve the economic well-being and the educational level of Gambians. It will also increase employment opportunities.
Various speakers at the event expressed gratitude to President Yahya Jammeh, as they hailed the efforts of the Taiwanese and the related works of the Ministry of Higher Education, Gamworks, NTA, and the constructors.
