The criminal trial of theft involving one Alasana Sey continued recently at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Abeke, with the testimony of the third prosecution witness.

Testifying, the third prosecution witness, Sidia Sillah, told the court that he recognised the accused person and could recall what happened on 16 January 2011.

According to him, on the day in question, he was with some friends around the Governor ‘s office when he saw a crowd of people and he went there to find out what was happening.

He adduced that his former classmate, who is now a police officer, was holding the accused, whom he asked and he told him that the accused stole a mobile phone.

“While the second prosecution witness was holding the accused, the mobile phone rang in the pocket of the accused which the accused removed from his pocket and threw it on the ground,” he explained.

He said the second prosecution witness picked the mobile phone from the ground, adding that the mobile rang for the second time and when the call was received, the caller told the receiver that he was the owner of the mobile.

PW3 further adduced that the accused was taken to the Brikama Police Station and he later left for his home.

Meanwhile, the accused, Alasana Sey, also testified in defence and said among other things that he picked the mobile phone on the ground at Brikama while waiting for a vehicle. He vehemently denied stealing the mobile phone.
