Alleged rape case progresses

The rape case involving one Momodou Lamin Yerrajang continued recently at the Special Criminal Court with the testimony of a prosecution witness.

Testifying, Amadou Baldeh, a police officer attached to Sanyang Police Station, in the Kombo South District, told the court that on 10 August 2011, he was at the Sanyang Police Station when the mother of the victim came and lodged a complaint that her daughter was raped by the accused.

They went to the residence of the accused, but they could not meet him at home and went back to the station, he continued, stating that after a short while, an unknown person came and informed the police that the accused, Momodou Lamin Yerrajang, was back at home.

He added that when they went to the residence of the accused, they searched all over the house and found him under the bed hiding, adding that they effected arrest on the accused and took him to the Sanyang Police Station.

Under cross-examination, the witness told the court the accused was cautioned and charged, adding that he did not know anything in the case until it reached the police station.

He insisted that the accused was arrested under the bed.

The case continues.
