Alleged fraudster discharged

The lower court in Brikama recently discharged one Kebba Jaiteh of the offence of obtaining money by false pretence.

When the case was announced, the prosecuting officer, CPL 2294 Jammeh, applied to withdraw the matter.

He said that according to the complainant, the accused had compensated her with another compound with which she was satisfied and all the documents were prepared and given to her.

He also said the complainant said she wanted to withdraw the case against the accused person.

The presiding Magistrate Babucarr Secka granted the application made by the prosecution and accordingly discharged the accused person.

According to the particulars of offence, in 2008, at Yundum Village, Kombo North, West Coast Region, the accused, Kebba Jaiteh, with intent to defraud, obtained D70,000 from one Bintou Jabbi under the pretext that he was going to give her a land, which representation he knew or having reason to believe was false.
