The trial for alleged assault involving one Paul Mendy, Sang Pierre Mendy, Anthony Mendy and Belle Mendy continued on Monday at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate Abeke.
Testifying for the prosecution, Momodou Camara, a resident of Jambur village, told the court that he recognized the accused persons.
He told the court that he was assigned by one Famara Jarju to clear his land situated at Latria village.
Camara said while on the land clearing it, the accused persons found him there and they started beating him with sticks, adding that as a result of the beating, he sustained injury on his leg.
He added that he was later taken to Brikama Health Centre, where he was treated.
Under cross-examination, Camara told the court that he was not informed by Famara Jarju that the accused persons were claiming ownership of the said land.
He said, if he had known that, he would not have gone there for clearing, adding that since then he had never gone there again.
He said even Famara Jarju, who assigned him to clear the land, did not continue clearing the said land, because he was attacked by the accused persons.
The case at that juncture was adjourned to 10 October 2011.
