Ajax FC on Saturday 30 November 2013 beat Makann Bi FC by a goal to nil to be crowned champions of the Sky High Group Knockout final of the Banjul Sports Committee played at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium.

Bubacarr Ceesay scored the only goal of the game for Ajax FC in the 62th minute from a close-range finish.

As winners, Ajax FC went home with a giant trophy and a cash of D25,000, while runners-up Makann Bi FC received a consolation prize of D15,000.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the game, Muhammed Joof, head coach of Ajax, said he was delighted with lifting the trophy.

“You cannot stop Makann Bi from possessing the ball,” he said, adding: “We sat back, relaxed in our own area and waited for them. We prepared for them after losing 3-1 against them during the league semis.”

Kaler Kabir, head coach of Makann Bi FC, said he blamed his players for creating more than five chances and failing to capitalise on any and for also allowing Ajax to score their only chance of the game.

The coach, who put most of the blame on the central referee for his team’s loss, said their opponents’ goalkeeper wasted over ten minutes during the game when the referee added only five minutes of injury time.

“The referee spoiled the game,” he claimed, adding: “Gambian referees are not fair. This will not take us anywhere. Our sports will never develop if our referees do not change their attitude.”

Tesito FC were named the most discipline team of the competition, whilst Saihou Jallow, head coach Macdonald City, was voted the most outstanding coach.

The most outstanding young player award went to Abdoulie Sarr of Dingareh FC whilst Saihou Joof of Makann Bi FC went home with the most outstanding player award.

Bubacarr Ceesay of Ajax collected the leading goal scorer award after netting 7 goals in the competition.
