Executive officials of Agricultural Workers Association Cooperative Credit Union (AWACCU), in partnership with North Bank regional agricultural directorate, recently held a one-day sensitization meeting of agricultural staff to sensitize new members and update staff on their achievements and challenges.
Dr Saikou Sanyang, regional agriculture director, at the meeting praised members of AWACCU for their foresight in building more awareness on the status of the credit union.
Dr Sanyang used the opportunity to call on staff to promote the concept of credit union and encourage others yet to become members to consider doing so.
He assured them of his office’s support at all times.
Foday Jadama, secretary to the board, underscored the importance the board and executive members attach to raising public awareness and updating of members.
The sensitization aimed at strengthening the credit union’s activities, he said, whilst informing the region to select delegate for the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to take place in April.
Over the years, he said, the credit union has accumulated over 2 million dalasi and has provided loan to its members to enhance their social and economic status.
Fakebba Sora, an accountant at the Department of Agriculture, said the association is very much committed to staff welfare and called on new staff to join.
The credit union, according to him, contributes to poverty reduction and boosts staff ability to undertake meaningful development projects.
Modou Lamin Drammeh of the credit union spoke on the need for an increase in membership.
The holding of AGMs, he noted, is aimed at promoting good governance and transparency.
The North Bank agricultural staff lauded the initiative and assured the union of their cooperation and support.
