Action Aid office DA 8 in Kudang Village, Central River Region south over the weekend disbursed five hundred and seventeen thousand, six hundred Dalasi to Sofa Nyama, Dankunku and Kudang Lower Basic schools, respectively as school development fund.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held in Kudang, Mr. Bakary Fadera Action Aid?s Programme Manager stated that the funds were meant to support schools in the area of gardening tools, furniture, repairing school hand pumps, among others, all geared towards creating conducive learning environment for students in the DA area.
According to him, the funds would contribute to the attainment of the set objectives under the right to education as enshrined in Action Aid country strategy paper 2009 ? 2013.
"The strategic objectives of the CSP promote the realisation of the objectives of The Gambia government?s education policy," he said.
He added that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the DA and school management committee in the implementation of projects in schools.
"This is a yearly-based activity when Action Aid raised funds through sponsorship for children in the DA 8 area," he said, adding that those greater portions of the funds are directly invested in children.
For his part, Kebba Touray, Chief of Niamina East spoke at length on the importance of having quality and affordable education, adding that quality education cannot be achieved if learning and teaching environment is not conducive.
He stated that Action Aid attaches great importance to education as, he put it, this is not the first time for Action Aid to intervene in the area of education.
"It has now become a tradition for Action Aid DA 8 office in Kudang to disburse funds for schools in the DA area to support and complement government efforts in the campaign of Education for All and quality and relevant education," he concluded.
