Accident case continues

The accident case involving Pa Babucarr Njie continued recently at the Brikama Magistrate’ Court, before Magistrate Babucarr Secka.

Pa Babucarr Njie was alleged to have driven a motor vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, thereby caused the death of one CPL Yunusa Bah, a police officer, at Lamin NTC on 22 September 2010.

Testifying before the court, CPL 250 Amadou Kujabi, a police officer, told the court that on 22 September 2010 he left his duty post at Abuko to meet with 1st Class Lamin Sanyang at Lamin NTC.

CPL 250 Kujabi said that on arrival at the NTC junction, he found that there was an accident involving two vehicles and a motorbike.

He added that he assisted Sgt Yaboe and 1st Class Lamin Sanyang to measure the scene of the accident.

According to him, both drivers were later escorted to the Yundum Police Station where warning letters were served them.

The warning letter served on the defendant was later admitted and tendered in court as exhibit.

Under cross-examination by defence counsel, Awa Sisay-Sabally, the witness maintained that both drivers were served with warning letters.

He identified the second warning letter, which the defence counsel applied to tendered in court as exhibit.

Counsel further put it to him that he (the witness) told the accused to sign as formality, but the witness denied that.

The case was at that juncture adjourned till19 January 2011.
