At least 80 youths from four youth groups in the Upper River Region have been recently trained on life skills at the Basse Mini Stadium.
The life skill training was attended by Sabunyuna Youth Club, Manchester Club, Waterman Club and YMCA-supported Livelihood Youth Club.
The training focus on 'how to think critically and not what to think.' The life skill approach was completely interactive, using role-plays, games, group discussions and a variety of other innovative teaching techniques.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Abdoulie Fye, Programme Manager at the Gambia National Youth Council stated that each trainee was provided with a training manual to guide them.
According to Mr. Fye, there is no doubt the manual is seen as very useful to the authorities and students of the training centres.
Other speakers included Mr. Muhammed Jaiteh, the President of Sabunyuna Youth Club, Mr. Ousman Jawo, Regional Chairperson of the Youth Committee in URR, Isatou Jallow of Waterman Club, who is also a footballer of the national female team, Mustapha Kebbeh, Nyandu Drammeh and Adama Sabally.
