The
Brikama Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced Ndey Sanneh,
Fatoumata Manjang and Isatou Marena, accused of conspiracy and common assault,
to a fine of D1,000 each and a compensation of D500 each, in default to serve
three months in prison.
Delivering
the judgment, the presiding Magistrate Jarju told the court that the accused
persons were arraigned before the court and charged with two counts.
The
charge sheet was read to them and interpreted to them in the local language
they understood and they all denied the charge, he said, adding that the
prosecutor presented his witnesses to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt.
He
summarized the evidence of the prosecution witnesses and that of the defence,
and said the prosecutor had proven his case beyond all reason doubt.
In
their plea of mitigation, the accused persons begged the court to temper
justice with mercy, as they were all friends and they used to move together
without any problem.
This
was their first time committing such an act, and it would never happen again,
they said.
They were consequently convicted and sentenced
accordingly.
